JVC 3D kit used by award-winning channel
Award-winning channel, Wedding TV, is a women’s lifestyle channel on Sky and Freesat, which features a variety of hit programmes, including Bridezillas,
Brides on a Bus and The Great Cake Bake. Not only did the channel recently purchase a JVC 3D screen and a 2D- 3D converter, but it also bought JVC tapeless ProHD cameras and DT-V
monitoring, to ensure its viewers get the best quality 3D experience when it comes to walking down the
aisle.
“Wedding TV is the world’s first channel devoted to weddings, love and relationships,” explains Marcin Hoszowski, Head of On-Air and European Production. “With our motto, Every Day Is A Big Day, we launched in 2006 and are currently broadcasting in the UK, Ireland and parts of Europe and Africa.”
“I first saw the JVC GD-463D10 and IF-2D3D1 during the BVE 2010 show earlier this year. Then, a couple of months later at the NAB 2010 show, I was serving as one of the Pick Hit Awards judges and I was so impressed by what I’d seen of the 3D screen and 2D-3D converter, I nominated them both. We now run a unique 3D conversion laboratory at Wedding TV, which uses both the JVC GD-463D10 3D monitor and the IF-2D3D1 3D image processor, supplied by Proactive.”
Wedding TV prides itself on producing most of its programmes in-house, with over 250
hours of original programming a year. It was named Best Specialist Channel at the Broadcast Digital Awards, beating many serious contenders to the title. “We have been very
impressed with the 2D-3D image processor and have found there have been times when it is almost impossible to tell the difference between actual and converted 3D footage,” Marcin
continues. “We have tested the IF-2D3D1 on some big blockbusters and some of the results have been amazing – often better than those in the cinema.”
At the time Wedding TV made their entry into 3D production, they were also looking for a high quality tapeless camera. “We eventually chose the GY-HM700 due to its value for money and great workflow benefits,” Marcin says.
“We loved that you could literally drag and drop your footage directly from the
SDHC card into the Final Cut Pro™ timeline – this was the deciding factor in our choice as the JVC camera was completely different from what was already on the market. I felt that
many other cameras out there seemed as though they were developed by people who’d never seen practical post-production workflow in action.
“JVC have added so much to the market with both their cameras and 3D,” Marcin concludes. “I hope JVC continues to innovate, as that’s what really counts in our business.”
